The Approach

With long experience, my view is that, for many clients, a more positive outcome from therapy results from focussing more on the present and orienting to the future than dwelling at great length on the past.

However, it is also very important to look at early experience and family dynamics to see what patterns have been formed which may no longer be appropriate.

Successful psychotherapy does not need never-ending weekly visits and short-term therapy can be extremely effective. However for some clients weekly support is necessary and appropriate. To begin with too, weekly appointments are important in order to build a trusting relationship.

If appropriate, one or more of a range of supporting techniques might be incorporated including relaxation techniques, cognitive approaches, EMDR (bilateral stimulation through eye movement) and EFT (working with emotional energy).

I explain each approach to the client fully before introducing it and only by mutual agreement.
